about

In November and December 2014, Ripsaw Catfish organised a collaborative touring project called 'Shoaling'. For each of the five dates, we formed ad-hoc groups with local musicians and played an improvised set informed by, incorporating or ignoring a set of pre-composed fragments written by us. These tracks were recorded on a handheld recorder to document the project.

Ripsaw Catfish is:

Cath Roberts - baritone saxophone
Anton Hunter - guitar

and we played with (in order of appearance):

London (LUME, Long White Cloud, 18th November)
Corey Mwamba - vibraphone and small instruments
Dave Kane - bass
Joshua Blackmore - drums

Ulverston (Open Circuit, Parish Rooms, 29th November)
Shaun Blezard - electronics

Liverpool (Blank Canvas, Ship & Mitre, 30th November)
Mark Hanslip - tenor saxophone
Johnny Hunter - drums

Norwich (Marzanos, 13th December)
Chris Dowding - trumpet
Hugh Stanners - trumpet
Simon Youngman - tenor sax
Ben Higham - tuba
Geoff Charlton - drums

Brighton (The Scope, Caroline Of Brunswick, 17th December)
Dan Powell - guitar and electronics
Gus Garside - bass
